The structure of this pigment-cell tumour (symmetry, sharp
demarcation by nests, regular distribution of melanocytes)
argues in favour of a malign neoplasia and allows a diagnosis
of Spitz naevus. |

A melanoma would probably have been diagnosed using a partial
biopsy, in view of the atypical nuclei and numerous melanocytes
in the upper epidermis layers.
