Lupus erythematosus

This biopsate of a discoid Lupus erythematosus shows superficial changes very similar to a Lichen planus. Demarcation would hardly be possible using a superficial biopsy. Using a punch biopsy, however, the infiltrate into the lower dermis is recorded, which argues against a Lichen planus and allows a diagnosis of Lupus erythematosus.
