Artifacts

Artifacts brought about by not fixing the formalin in a biopsy for the direct immune fluorescence: keratinocytes are swollen, the epidermis has become focally detached, inflamed cells can no longer be classified with confidence. Due to artifacts of this sort, a test for the normal histopathological examination should be removed as well as the tissue for the immune fluorescence.
