Information on skin biopsies
Choosing the biopsy technique
Excision biopsy of malignant tumours
When a malignant tumour is suspected, an
excision biopsy should as matter of course be carried out
with a microscopic cutting-blade check, so that the preparation
can be given a proper histo-pathological assessment and no
further surgical measures become necessary. Superficial tumours
can be completely removed by a
deep shave
biopsy. As soon as the tumour appears to be invading
the dermis more deeply, a large biopsy using a scalpel is
required for the complete removal of the tumour.
